About Us
Welcome! My name is Jake Herdell and my amazing wife, Benyapon Herdell, and I started North Beach Juicery as a result of using “food as medicine” in my healing journey with chronic migraines. I am so thankful to be on the other side of disabling migraine headaches and we hope our organic café brings you and your loved ones an opportunity to nourish your body and mind. Read on to learn more about my story in healing migraines and the inspiration behind North Beach Juicery!
Not only did this approach of eating nutrient-dense whole foods help me regain my life, but it helped my dad, sister, and brother
— Jake Herdell —
How it all began
I suffered from chronic migraines since the age of four and essentially became a “worst-case” scenario, bouncing around top migraine specialists all over the country, without any relief from the disabling pain. Over the years of my illness, I met with psychiatrists, neurologists, behavioral therapists, etc. while taking many, many medications, eventually resorting to nerve injections, Botox injections, and other injectable acute medications. To be honest, many of these treatments left me feeling worse than before and dealing with additional pain and trauma.
After 20+ years of chronic illness, I had become very disillusioned with the idea of continuing to try new treatments. One of my more recent doctors, who has migraines as well, became nothing more than a legal drug dealer, offering me never-ending prescriptions of acute and preventative medications, abortives, and Botox injections.
This has been a devastating disease for me throughout my entire life. In 2006, after days and days of endless sickness, I remember telling my dad, “You know I have little reason to wake up in the morning.” My life with migraines coupled with failed polypharmacy and many ensuing side effects felt like something I wasn’t sure how much longer I could handle.
Ten years later, in 2016, I began to focus my energy on using an organic plant-based diet coupled with fresh daily juices and other lifestyle therapies to support my healing. Not only did this approach of eating nutrient-dense whole foods help me regain my life, but it helped my dad, sister, and brother – all who suffered from migraines themselves – regain their lives too! Each of us are truly thankful to get off daily medications and find long-term healing by using food as medicine. It is with this gratitude that my wife and I are dedicated to bringing you locally-sourced organic produce that we have carefully crafted into delicious and nutritious recipes for you and your family to enjoy!

I just love the citrus ginger cayenne shot! And each of their juices are really tasty but it's the extra stuff that sets them apart. The vegan gf cheesecakes! The vege lettuce wraps with the little rice paper outer wrapper as well as killer salads and curry offerings that change with the seasons.

My husband often goes to the chiropractic shop next door and we saw this new Juicery that opened up and wanted to check it out! It looked so good we ordered the nori roll and the açaí smoothie, both were delicious!! The owners (husband and wife) were so sweet and welcoming, they gave us a tester of the cheesecake and it was absolutely delicious I told my husband I wanted a whole one for my bday! It's hard to find restaurants that use wholesome ingredients and this place is great. Totally recommend for all locals and passerbys!

Vegan juice bar and restaurant that just opened up in San Clemente. Near the metro train station. Lots of parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. Menu includes fresh organic juices, smoothies, raw salads, wraps, and desserts. I had the açai smoothie and the kale salad. Delicious! Best smoothie I’ve had in a long time included mango, pineapple, protein powder, acai, and almond butter in just the perfect combination so sweet so delicious. The salad is fresh and inviting with lots of hemp seeds, avocado, vegan cheese, bell peppers, cucumbers, and sprouts. To treat myself I picked up a slice of their coconut mango cheesecake. 100% vegan no added sugar’s and absolutely fantastic. They serve a generous slice of cheesecake with a heavenly mango sauce served on the side. Highly recommend this new gem. Hope they are around for many years to come, such a great addition to the neighborhood.

Nice selection of juices, smoothies, sweets, wraps, bowls etc. More then just a traditional juice shop. You can tell all the ingredients are super fresh. So far have been very pleased with everything I have ordered from my two visits here.
